Based on ideas from the trades: Würth to manufacture cordless tools

Summary

Künzelsau. In future, Würth will develop and manufacture its own cordless tools. Würth entered into a joint venture partnership with Techtronic Industries Co. Ltd. named WÜRTH MASTER POWER TOOLS LTD. that is based in Hong Kong, China.

Since December 2018, Würth has owned a majority interest in a joint venture with Techtronic Industries Co. Ltd. (TTI). TTI is a renowned manufacturer in the field of battery technology, among others launching lithium-ion technology into the power tool market. In the joint venture of Würth and TTI, manufacturing, development and marketing expertise are combined in a unique way: As a leading manufacturer in this business segment, TTI operates production sites in Germany, the US and Asia. Würth specializes in the trade of assembly and fastening technology, having earned the position of market leader in this field. The deal received approval from the responsible anti-trust authorities.

“We look forward to our collaboration with TTI and to the opportunity of manufacturing our very own cordless tools. This way, we ensure our design will incorporate all the ideas and suggestions we take up on a daily basis when interacting with our customers“, explains Thomas Klenk, Member of the Management of Adolf Würth GmbH & Co. KG responsible for the Product, Purchasing and Export unit.

Cordless technology for greater potential

For Würth, the development of a new generation of cordless tools must always be based on customer requirements. “Thanks to our sales team in the field and our almost 500 branch offices in Germany, we have our finger on the pulse of the various trades. Every day, we engage in more than 40,000 conversations with our customers—we know what they expect from a tool. Of course, we draw on this knowledge when developing our tools”, adds Thomas Klenk. In the years to come, Würth expects to see exciting technological developments when it comes to cordless tools. By launching its own production, the company hopes to strengthen its influence on the tools on the market. Cordless technology offers great potential in the future, thus forming the focus of the joint venture. The range of cordless tools offered by the company will be transformed step by step. The first product launched, the cordless ABS-18 Compact screwdriver, is already available. The next power tools are to follow in spring 2019.

Manufacturing expertise in other areas

Würth increasingly develops and manufactures its own products in other product areas, too. Examples include the well-known ASSY screw, furniture fittings, anchors and chemical-technical products. Würth’s share of own production for the entire product range currently amounts to about 25 %.
