The Würth Group and the non-profit Würth Foundation grant EUR 50 million to promote cancer research

Summary

Over the next ten years, the Würth Group and the non-profit Würth Foundation will provide a total of EUR 50 million to fund research to combat pancreatic cancer at Champalimaud Foundation in Lisbon, Portugal.

The Champalimaud Foundation is a global research pioneer and sets new standards in knowledge to promote human health and well-being. The foundation aims at becoming a global leader in scientific and technological innovation to diagnose, treat, and control diseases. Activities at the Champalimaud Center for the Unknown (CCU) in Lisbon focus on research in the areas of neuroscience and cancer.

The funding provided by the Würth Group and the non-profit Würth Foundation aims to support research into pancreatic cancer. This type of cancer is still one of the deadliest and at the same time one of the least researched forms of cancer.

Research is led by Prof. Dr. Markus W. Büchler, a world-renowned physician in the field of pancreatic cancer research and surgery. Junior and senior physicians and scientists work together at the research center to accelerate critical breakthroughs in research and to enable physicians around the world to defeat this dangerous disease.

“We are very grateful for the support of the Würth Group and the non-profit Würth Foundation, as it facilitates many years of cancer research. This grant will help us make new progress and provide better care to patients with pancreatic cancer around the world,” said Prof. Dr. Markus W. Büchler.
