Würth Electrical Wholesale Group expands into Western Italy via strategic partnership with IDG01

Summary

The Würth Electrical Wholesale Group (W.EG) expands its presence in Italy by agreeing on a strategic partnership with IDG01 S.p.A., the leading electrical wholesaler in Piedmont, headquartered in Turin. The partnership is based on W.EG acquiring a majority interest in IDG01 S.p.A.. The key element of this partnership is the continuation of the current management team in their respective functions and the operational independence of the company. The proposed transaction is subject to agreement of the antitrust authorities.

In February 2015, the Würth Electrical Wholesale Group entered the Italian market with the formation of a strategic cooperation with MEF s.r.l, headquartered in Florence. In July 2018, MEB s.r.l., based in Schio, joined W.EG Italia, adding a strong footprint in the Triveneto area. Thanks to the engagement of the entire team, continuous investments and a consistent long term growth strategy, sales have more than doubled and the number of employees has significantly grown since the start of the cooperation.

Ulrich Liedtke, Executive Vice President of W.EG and responsible for the business in eight European countries, explains: “Thanks to the success stories of MEF and MEB we are confident to further expand our market share in the central and northeastern part of Italy. However, it was obvious that we would greatly benefit from a strong addition in the northwest. We are very pleased that we were able to convince IDG01 to join our group. In Piedmont, we are gaining a strong position in a region which we were previously not represented in and are expanding our growth opportunities in Lombardy and Liguria. As with MEF and MEB before, IDG01 will become an independent, yet co-operating company within the Würth Electrical Wholesale network.”

Paolo Caraglio, CEO and Chairman of IDG01, underlines: “Looking at development opportunities for our company, I am convinced that the partnership with the Würth Group provides the best option. This will enable IDG01 to continue its growth strategy and benefit from central resources while maintaining its integrity and offering its employees a good perspective for the future.”
