Würth Group receives UN Global Recognition Award

Summary

Künzelsau/New York. The Würth Group was honored for its commitment to people with disabilities with the UN Global Recognition Award “Good Practices of Employability for Workers with Disability” in the “Management” category.

“The Würth Group’s holistic commitment to improving the participation and equality of people with disabilities in the workplace is particularly impressive, because it is founded on good international practices in the professional world that are not limited to just one country”, the jury said in its statement.

The jury gave a special mention to Hotel-Restaurant Anne-Sophie, where people with and without disabilities work together every day, the Markus Würth Endowed Professorship for Pediatric Neuro-Orthopedics and Cerebral Palsy as well as facilities for people with disabilities in Greece and Kyrgyzstan and educational facilities in South Africa. Moreover, Würth has been supporting Special Olympics Germany, the German branch of the world’s largest sports association for people with intellectual and multiple disabilities, since 2008.

This commitment to Special Olympics was initiated by Carmen Würth who has made it her mission to bring people with and without disabilities together and to promote understanding and tolerance.

The award was presented during the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) of the United Nations. Since 1992, the IDPD has been observed annually all around the world on 3 December. The theme of this year’s IDPD was “Empowering persons with disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality”. The goal of this second round of awards was to honor and internationally recognize the successful initiatives of companies that are great examples of the positive integration of people with disabilities into the labor market.
